Welcome

West leg of Green Line

The west leg of the planned Green Line
waits for ballast and track.

Origins

The Green Valley Short Line Railroad Club came into being in 2006 when a group of live steam enthusiasts decided to help make the dream of a fellow hobbyest come true.

Bob Canavan had retired in 1984 with the thought of settling on a few acres of land and setting up his very own track. But fate is not always kind to hard-working people, and over the next few years Bob slowly lost the use of his hands and arms. He was (and still is) able to share his extensive knowledge of all things mechanical, and those who had visited him through the years finally decided that the time had come to get it done.

The scrounging skills which are second nature to all tinkerers were put to good use, and soon huge piles of scrap wood began appearing on the property. A somewhat senior bulldozer was yanked out of its twilight years, given a thorough overhaul - several times - and put through its paces, roughing out the path of the first loop.

The Green Line winds its way through the woods, circling the house from which Bob can survey the club's activities. Many more miles of track are planned. As this web page is launched (April 2006), we are feverishly cutting ties while we wait for the remains of the Canadian winter to dry up. We invite you to keep checking in as we document our progress!
